Free Business Courses Online
Business training doesn’t have to be expensive – often it can be completely free! There is a wide variety of free business courses available, many of which can be studied online. Many universities and colleges now offer distance learning options in addition to their traditional courses where attendance is required. The online courses can be studied at times to suit you and your existing family, social and work commitments.
One thing to watch out for when opting for a free course is whether or not you will receive college credits or accredited qualifications on successful completion of the course. If you are studying for your own interest or to improve your effectiveness in your own business, then it may not matter to you whether you gain a qualification or not. However, if you are attempting to boost your career, then you are likely to want that bit of paper to prove your achievements to your employer or potential employer or perhaps even for your own self-esteem.
The globally renowned London School of Business and Finance (LSBF) have come up with what they describe as a revolutionary idea which turns traditional MBA learning on its head. Unlike most MBA courses, where you have to make a large financial commitment up front before being able to properly assess the quality of the lecture notes or the teaching, the LSBF Global MBA takes a completely different approach.
They give you access to the entire MBA course for free, and only at the end, if you decide that you do after all want the MBA qualification, then you pay to sit an exam and gain your qualification. The course is delivered via a Facebook application. You can watch their video below if you’d like to find out more.
Another good place to look for free business training is MIT OpenCourseWare from the Sloan School of Management. Courses are available at both bachelor and master level. These course provide you with lecture notes, projects and assignments and, in some cases, exams. There are hundreds of courses on offer so you have plenty to pick and choose from. Unfortunately, although they give you free access to all the learning materials, there doesn’t seem to be any way to gain an official qualification from your free MIT studies. However, the MIT courses would be a great jump-start to any more formal course or qualification you might choose.

Disseminating course material free of charge is a wonderful development. However, it requires funding from somewhere. I see that MIT’s Open Courseware project will run out of funds this year if they cannot attract further donations and sponsorship. I wonder if donations qualify for tax relief.

Hi Mike
They ask for donations on their website to help keep this resource going. I expect someone will step in rather than stand by and see it lost.
Well, there’s a call to action for anyone who was thinking of doing a course with the free MIT resources – do it now before it’s too late!
Yours
Hilary
